Although kendu leaf working has been standardised over the years and a standard operating procedure (SOP) has been developed, there has been constant endeavour to bring about qualitative improvement in the processing of Kendu leaves for which Odisha Kendu leaf organisation is recognised throughout the country. Kendu leaves Research and Training Centre (KLRTC) was established during the year 2014 at Sambalpur to undertake the task of imparting quality training to all categories of Kendu leaf staffs.
As part of research Kendu leaves waste was used in establishment of vermi compost units. The production per annun is about 25 Qtls. from a unit.
